Obituary

George Mock

March 22, 1932- July 13, 2025

George Mock, 93, passed peacefully at home on July 13. He was born on March 22, 1932, and was the beloved husband of Lurita for 55 years.

George proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1958 as a Staff Sergeant and jet mechanic.

Following his service, he earned multiple degrees from Ball State University and pursued graduate studies in education and aerospace technology. He dedicated over 30 years to teaching Industrial Arts at Anderson High School, where he also coordinated the Cooperative Education program. After retiring, he enjoyed driving motor coach trips for Econoway.

A passionate private pilot, George logged over 50 years of flight time and was honored with the FAA’s Master Pilot Award. He was a Certified Flight Instructor and licensed A&P Mechanic.

George was a longtime member of Eastview Church of the Nazarene, the Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club, and a Charter Member of the International Cessna 170 Association.

He loved working with his hands—whether constructing their family home or restoring antique tractors, vintage aircraft, and classic cars.

The family homestead, known as Bubbling Springs, was a lifelong source of joy and peace for George, where he took pride in maintaining the land and operating a mobile home park.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lurita; children, Sheryl Shinn, Alan Mock, Cindy (John) Lamper, and Karen (Ben) Griner; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation and services will be held at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service on Friday, July 18. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m, followed by Masonic Memorial Rites and funeral service. Burial will follow at Bronnenberg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eastview Church of the Nazarene.
