Obituary

Salem
Stephen V. Hall, 77, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Thursday, July 3, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (Raymond) Hall, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, Steve was the son of the late Alfred S. Hall III and Jeannette C. (Gallant). After graduating from high school, he proudly served stateside in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
For fifty years, Steve worked as a dedicated meat cutter at various Stop & Shop locations. Known for his strong work ethic, he rarely missed a day of work and took great pride in his craft.
A lifelong Boston sports fan, Steve especially enjoyed the early years of his marriage when he coached his son’s youth hockey teams. He treasured family trips to sports museums and summers spent at the lakes in New Hampshire. Over the years, he became an enthusiastic collector of books, music albums, and railroad memorabilia, and he loved sharing stories of growing up in Salem.
Steve valued time with family above all else—whether it was a holiday gathering or a birthday celebration. In his later years, nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandchildren play and compete in youth sports.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer L. Griffith of Worcester, and Denise B. Lee and her husband Mark of Salem; and his sons, Daniel R. Hall and his wife Jessica of Salem, and Stephen R. Hall and his wife Jessica, also of Salem. He was a proud grandfather to Emma and Matthew Lee, Addison and Avery Hall, and Grace and Hunter Hall, all of Salem.
Steve is also survived by his brothers, James P. Hall of East Hampstead, NH, and Thomas R. Hall and his wife Mimi of Brookline, NH, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Christopher J. Hall.
