Lenore Frazier, a long-time resident of Winchester, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in her home on July 3, 2025. She was 98 years old.
Lenore was active in a range of civic and educational endeavors throughout her life. Born on February 16, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, she attended the University of Chicago’s Lab School and college. There she met a fellow student who became her future husband, Howard Stanley Frazier. As Howard completed studies and began his career on the faculty at Harvard Medical School, Lenore gave birth to four children, Mark, Reid, Anne, and Peter. She became known for civic projects beginning in the 1960s to improve the quality of Winchester’s public schools, recycling policies, and care for the environment. She later worked with Howard to improve higher education as Co-Master of Harvard-Radcliffe’s Currier House.
Lenore is predeceased by Howard, by their second son, Reid Frazier, and by their grandson Andrew Leister-Frazier. Her surviving children are Mark Frazier, Anne Frazier, and Peter Frazier. She also is survived by nine grandchildren.
In her later years, Lenore was influenced by the writings and documentaries of British environmentalist David Attenborough. She has asked friends and relatives in her memory to support their choice of environmental organizations, or PBS-WGBH, One Guest St., Boston, MA 02135, in lieu of sending flowers. She felt that giving to such groups will help carry forward her values and legacy of good works.
At Lenore’s request, no service will be held in remembrance other than a family gathering. She will be interred alongside her late husband Howard at Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester.
