Donald Greer, Sr.
Retired Captain of the Tewksbury Fire Department.
Donald Greer, Sr., age 89, a resident of Tewksbury for 55 years, passed away surrounded by his wife and family, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Care One At Wilmington.
He is the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Childs) Greer, with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on October 2, 2024.
Born in Malden on June 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Robert Greer and the late Josephine V. (Dacey) Greer.
Don was raised in Everett. He graduated from Everett High School and received an associate degree from Boston University.
In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War Era with the 570th Military Police Company. He received the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) as well as the Good Conduct Medal for his active-duty service.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, Don began his career as a firefighter in 1961 with the Everett Fire Department. In 1975, he transferred to the Tewksbury Fire Department, where he served until his retirement in 1993.
Don was devoted to his wife and family and treasured sharing precious moments with each of them whether at home in Tewksbury, in Florida or York Beach Maine. Don got the most enjoyment from spending time with his family and friends. He was affectionately called “Bubba” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were a constant source of pride and joy. He could always be found front and center at every ice rink, sports field, dance recital and award ceremony.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his three children, retired Tewksbury Fire Department Lieutenant, Donald Greer, Jr. and his wife Lillian, of Tewksbury, Retired Tewksbury School teacher, Judith A. Middleton and her husband Scott, of Tewksbury, and Retired Tewksbury School teacher, Kathleen M. MacLeod and her husband Thomas: ten grandchildren, Jaclyn, Meghan and Kathryn Greer, Noah Gagnon, Cora Gagnon, Brianna Gagnon, Thomas MacLeod, III, Sean MacLeod and his wife Brittany, Scott Middleton and his wife Torrie, and Margaret Countie and her husband Zachary: four great grandchildren, Christian Forrester, Mahri Greer, Kennedy Countie, and Owen Middleton. Don was the brother of Jeanne Veno and her late husband Ronald, of Tewksbury, and former Everett Firefighter, the late Robert Greer, Jr.
Calling hours are Monday, July 14 from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Tuesday, July 15 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Services will conclude in the chapel at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury.
