Obituary

Virginia Esperanza Valdivia, age 79, of Oxnard, California, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born in Dos Palos, CA, to Raul and Esperanza Saiz, Virginia lived a life of quiet strength and fierce devotion to her family — especially to her husband, Robert. Known lovingly as “Grammy,” she was admired for her sharp humor, resilience, and the way she made everyone feel truly seen and cared for.

At just five feet tall (on a good day), she was a powerful presence and never hesitated to speak her mind. She leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and unforgettable laughter.

Virginia is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Robert; her sons Robert Valdivia Jr. (Lorie) and Daniel “Andy” Valdivia, who helped care for her in her final months; and her beloved grandchildren: Alyssa Ward (Matthew), Devin Valdivia (Valerie), Julian Silva, Gabriel Silva, Mario Arreguin Jr. (Brittany), Aimee Arreguin, Marissa Valdivia, and Sara Valdivia. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren; sisters Rosie Gutierrez and Tina Turkish; “forever family” member Mario Arreguin Sr.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory forward.

She was preceded in death by her dearly beloved daughter, Julie Arreguin — a loss that left a space in her heart that never truly healed — as well as her father Raul; mother and stepfather Esperanza and Domingo Cardona; and brothers Robert & Danny Saiz and Art Cardona.

Virginia found joy in simple things: family gatherings, long phone calls, and faithfully visiting her husband. Her life was woven with grace, strength, and unwavering love.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to her sister Rosie, and to the staff at St. John’s Regional and St. John’s Camarillo Sub-Acute Care Unit for their daily care and compassion. Your support meant the world to her.

Per her wishes, there will be no public service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

“Mothers hold their children’s hands for a while, but their hearts forever.”
