Phyllis Smith Presley, 69, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, July 4, 2025, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 10 AM, Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Dusty Stoey and the Rev. Clifford Bernard officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the cemetery.
Mrs. Presley was born October 3, 1955, in Douglas, Georgia, to the late Charles Eugene & Willie Kate Harp Smith. She was a 1973 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. While in high school, she began working for the Ben Hill County Health Department, retiring as lead secretary after 40 plus years of service. She enjoyed watching game shows and playing words with friends. She was a wonderful “Pippy” to her nephews and great-nieces and nephews as well as many of their friends, welcoming them into her home and helping to raise them. She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Robin & Robert Calhoun of Fitzgerald; a brother, Charles & Shelly Smith of Montevallo, Alabama; several nieces and nephews that were like her children including: Robby & Wanda Gaines, Chris & Katy Calhoun, Daniel & Courtney Calhoun; and great-nieces and nephews: Gregory, Laura Lee, Ella Claire, Harper, and Emma Cate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Grover Presley; two brothers: Tommy Smith and Harry Smith and two sisters: Freddi Hagin and Kathryn Gaines.
