Mary Lou George, 77, formerly of 51 May St., died on Monday, June 16, 2025, in Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, Florida.
She leaves a sister, Lorraine Castell of Lecanto, FL, who cared for her for the last 10 years and with whom she lived. The two sisters were inseparable throughout their lives.
She also leaves the many nieces and nephews she so lovingly cared for, Mike & Deb Morang, John & Deb Gleason, Ron & Danielle Gleason, Jeff & Robin George all of Auburn; Jean & Bill Leavitt of Oxford, Lisa & Don Postma of Douglas, Laurie Valliere of Uncasville, Ct, Nancy & Michael Klein of Kingston, Paul & Denise Gleason of Worcester, Amy & Mike Gerrior of Millbury and Kathy Gleason of Brookfield, 17 grand-nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her sisters, Florence Morang, Dorothy Gleason and Arline Gleason and her brother Thomas George. She is also pre-deceased by a nephew, Neal Morang of Leicester.
Mary Lou was born in Worcester, Ma, daughter of Thomas and Laura L. (Beauchemin) George and graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. She worked as a switchboard operator for Ma Bell prior to the divestiture and then continued her career with AT&T. She also worked at Fairlawn Rehab and Hanover Insurance on their switchboards.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Vacations were not complete without Mary Lou and with Mary Lou every trip was an adventure. She was extremely generous, sharing everything she had with her nieces and nephews including her love of movies, music and the use of her car. She was the family’s support in difficult times and the fun when times were good. She was the maker of potato salad and no party was complete without it.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, at 10 AM on Saturday, July 26 followed by a graveside service at Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
