Eleni (Bode) Kotnani, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 1st, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Guri Kotnani, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2009.
Eleni leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth through her cherished family: her son, Jani Kotnani, and his wife, Kozeta, of Worcester; her daughter, Mariana Shkodrani, and her husband, Gjergi, of Korçë, Albania; four beloved grandchildren, Grigor, Elena, Aida, and Estela; and eight adored great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in Korçë, Albania, Eleni was the daughter of Kristaq and Tepsithe (Floriri) Bode. At the age of 22, she married Guri, and together they raised their two children in their hometown. Eleni worked at a local shoe factory until her retirement, demonstrating the same care and diligence she brought to her family life.
In 2005, Eleni and Guri immigrated to the United States to join their son and his family in Worcester, where Eleni would spend the remainder of her life.
Eleni was a woman of many talents and deep passions. She had a lifelong love for sewing and knitting, particularly known for the handcrafted slipper socks she lovingly called “gjurmashka.” Many friends and family still treasure her handmade creations. She also expressed her love through cooking, delighting loved ones with traditional dishes like lakror and fresh, homemade bread.
Hospitality was at the heart of Eleni’s life. She found joy in gathering with family and friends, always ready to offer a warm welcome and a strong cup of Turkish coffee, which she enjoyed until her final days. Her infectious sense of humor, lively spirit, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
After retirement, Eleni took great pride in helping raise her grandchildren and managing her home, roles she fulfilled with boundless love. She was also a passionate Boston Celtics fan, often watching games with her son and grandson and cheering on her team with enthusiasm.
Eleni’s warmth, kindness, and spirited personality will be deeply missed. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
