Rosaire A. Constant, 92, of New Bedford died August 22, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Blanche A. (Dubois) Constant.
Born in West Warwick, Rhode Island, the son of the late Wilfred and Rosilda (Petit) Constant, he spent part of his childhood in Fairhaven and lived most of his life in New Bedford.
He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth, and a former communicant of St. Anne's Church and Sacred Heart Church, both in New Bedford.
Starting at the age of 14, Mr. Constant worked most of his life at the Berkshire Hathaway Mill as a weaver and changer.
He loved to plant in his garden and share produce with his relatives and friends. He had an amazing memory for faces, and could remember people from his school days after not having seen them for over fifty years. He loved to be with people and entertain them with his jokes and stories.
Mr. Constant remained energetic and and retained his optimistic outlook on life right up to the last few months of his life. He had a loving, generous heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include a son, Robert N. Constant of Monroe, NY; a daughter, Jane I. Constant of New Bedford; 2 brothers, William Constant of New Bedford and Raymond Constant of Clinton; 2 grandsons; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Irene Nye, Blanche Alexander, Lorraine Hassler, Christine Hayes, Wilfred Constant, Joseph Constant, Roland Constant, Daniel Constant, Henry Constant and Napoleon Constant.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Friday, August 25th at 10:30 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visiting hours Thursday, August 24th from 5-9 PM.
