LYMAN- Waldo Gilbert Emmons, age 92, also known as “Wally,” “Henry,” “Dad,” or “Pop,” passed away on June 26, 2025, in Sanford.
He was born on July 13, 1932, a son of the late Gilbert and Maxine (Dunn) Emmons.
He drove truck/tractor trailer all his life. In the late 70’s and 80’s he drove all over the USA. His cousin David Dunn was his best bud; he taught him how to drive tractor/trailer and the two of them spent many hours together on the road.
He finished his career with the US postal service working out of the main Portland office driving tractor trailer to the airport for delivery and pickup of mail. He never looked back, he loved retirement and the ability to enjoy his family
Waldo will always be remembered for his love of any kind of music, dancing, hunting and fishing, practical jokes, tell a good joke, board games and card games, snowmobiling, camping in Boothbay Harbor and spending time at his camp in Casco on the river.
He truly enjoyed going with Phil Patch in Phil’s corvette many times to car shows. They would leave with the top down looking like two kids off to an adventure.
He played basketball (point guard) and baseball (pitcher) in high school and played golf. He was right-handed yet did everything else left-handed and has grandsons with similar traits.
He was a big kid at heart and always took us sledding, skating, swimming and played ball with anyone in the neighborhood.
He got a moose and a bear in the Greenville area. He was very proud of his moose horns that hung above the fireplace.
Waldo was a man of faith and was affiliated with the East Waterboro Free Baptist Church and Good Shepherds Cove Church in Arundel.
He is predeceased by a daughter- Joyce Elaine Emmons passed of early birth complications; sisters Beverly Meserve and Shirley Garrigan, brother Richard Emmons and great grandson Jordan Lambert
