Tilden A. Mitchell, III of Milledgeville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June
22, 2025. Tammy, as he was known to family and friends, grew up in Tifton,
Georgia, and graduated from Tifton High School. After graduation from
North Georgia College in Dahlonega, he was commissioned into the U. S.
Army.
Colonel Mitchell’s military career spanned 26 years, with service in various
locations in the United States, the European Theater, Southeast Asia, and
the Korean Peninsula. He was recognized for outstanding service as a
Logistician, and among his medals the highest held are the Bronze Star and
the Legion of Merit. He retired in 1985, and he and Mary moved to their
home on Lake Sinclair.
Tammy loved his country, but he cared about his family and his home above
all. He enjoyed applying his knowledge and experience in physics,
maintenance, and community service and took great pride in his sons and
grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Taylor Mitchell; and his two sons,
Steven Taylor Mitchell (Kimberly) and Thomas Forrester Mitchell (Cheryl);
two sisters, Alcyone Whisenant (Bill) and Catharine Tyson; as well as six
grandchildren, Caitlyn Ray (Brooks), Craig (Melissa), Wyatt, David Croft, Danielle Leffler
(Brad), Grant, and Emily; and one great granddaughter, Emma Marie
Mitchell.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery July 19, 2025, in Tifton, Georgia.
Moore’s Funeral Home in Milledgeville and Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals in
Tifton have charge of arrangements.
