Obituary

George Lawrence, 80, of New Bedford, died at home August 21, 2006 after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Ethel M. (Ferreira) Lawrence; they had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 26, 2006.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Antone and Frances (Paiva) Lawrence, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was formerly employed as a salesman for Frito-Lay until his retirement in 1988.
Mr. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a recipient of the Philippine Liberation ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service medal and the World War II Victory medal.
Survivors include his wife; a son, George P. Lawrence, and his wife Christine, of New Bedford; 4 daughters, Diane Lawrence of Albany, NY, Carol Tremblay, and her husband Laurent, and Lori J. Plante, all of East Freetown, and Joan E. Coleman, and her husband Clayton, of New Bedford; 4 brothers, Antone Lawrence, Jr., of Little Compton, RI and Florida, Philip Lawrence of Westport, Denis Lawrence of New Bedford and Florida, and Manuel Lawrence of Selma, Oregon; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 24th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday, August 23rd from 6-8 PM.
