Lenna Joiner Mayne McCranie, 98, of Tifton passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Legacy Village in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hughes officiating. Mrs. McCranie will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. The family will be gathering at the home of Terry and Sara Jean Mayne, 4802 Woodland Drive East in Tifton.
Joseph Mayne, Mathew Robinson, Chris Cleghorn, Kris McDaniel, Andrew Mayne and Jackson Strickland will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Open Door Sunday School Class of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, Jerry and Kathe Branch, Harold and Linda Abbott, Jack and Rita Griffin and Wilbur and Ina Clair Webb.
Born December 11, 1926, in Cook County, Mrs. McCranie was the daughter of the late Mallie Joiner and Olive Peters Joiner. In addition to her parents. Ms. McCranie was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe W. Mayne, Jr., who passed away in 1962; her second husband, John Holmes McCranie, who passed away in 2009; and one brother, Houston M. Joiner.
After attending Cook County Public Schools, Mrs. McCranie attended South Georgia College in Douglas as well as the University of Georgia in Athens, where she received an AB and Masters degree. While attending the University of Georgia, she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She moved to Tifton in 1950 and taught for 30 years with the Tift County School System, where she was a classroom teacher for 12 years and a visiting teacher and school Social Worker for 18 years. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Society and the Tifton Business and Professional Women’s Club as well as being a life member of the Tift Retired Educators Association and the Georgia Retired Educators Association.
In her leisure time, Mrs. McCranie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing, needlepoint and traveling. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.
Mrs. McCranie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Len and Sara Jean Mathis Mayne and Richard “Ricky” Joseph and Patricia Mayne; four grandchildren, Joseph Brian Mayne, Kelli Mayne Strickland, Edie Mayne Cleghorn and Ashli Mayne McDaniel; ten great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
