Laura S. Velho, 85, of Somerville, MA died Sunday June 22, 2025 in the Sancta Maria Nursing Home in Cambridge, MA after a lengthy illness. She was born on November 18, 1939 in Santa Maria, Azores, a daughter of the late Jose and Rose (de Rego) Sousa. She had been a resident of Somerville for the past three years, formerly living in Cambridge, MA for many years. Laura’s passion was knitting.
She is survived by her sons, Jose Velho and his wife Kelli of Derry, and Marco Velho of Manchester, NH; her daughter, Annabella Knowlton and her husband Steve of Cape Coral, FL; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Manual Sousa; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jose Sousa and Maria Pavao.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 26th from 5 - 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00am in the funeral home. The burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry.
