Obituary

Robert L Hobart Sr, also known to many as “Spud or “Hobe”, 86, of Hanson, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on June 19th at his home.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 12th, 1938 to Winslow J. Hobart and Isabel (Demont) Hobart, he joined the United States Air Force in 1957 and was honorably discharged as a Second-Class Airman in 1960.

After being trained in woodworking in the Air Force, he worked for Ftorek and Barton Construction Company, became the head of maintenance for the town of Hanson Housing Authority, and was also a volunteer Firefighter and eventual Fire Captain at the Station 3 Firehouse in Hanson.

He was a master carpenter and woodworker, but also enjoyed hobby airplanes and loved watching NASCAR while reminiscing his go karting days.

Predeceased by the mother of his children, Hazel (Whitman) Hobart, Robert leaves behind his son Robert Hobart Jr. and his son’s wife Nela, his daughter Christine Petrino, granddaughter Jessica Hobart and her partner Edward Bedoya, granddaughter Caitlin Raddatz and her husband Steve, his longtime friend and love Claire Bizier, her son Jonathan Bizier and his wife Kathy, their daughters Erin and Megan, Claire’s son Brendan Bizier and his wife Yichan, their sons William, Henry, and Simon, and last but not least, his loyal furry companion Louie.

A graveside service will be on Thursday, June 26th at 10am in the Fern Hill Cemetery, High Street, Hanson.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
