Obituary

July 22, 1934 - April 4, 2025

D. Frank Palmieri, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, at 90 years old. Frank was born in Macchiagodena, Italy, and immigrated with his parents to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at three years old.

Frank is preceded in death by his wife Carmela, parents Felix and Josephine Palmieri; brother Martin (Marge).

He is survived by his wife Filomena Colace; four loving daughters Linda Severino (Budd), Frances Maher (Joseph), Lucy Morgan (Phil), Joan Green (Paul); beloved grandchildren Frank Severino (Heather), Gina Ragot (Maurice), Daniel Green (Manike), Michelle Green and great-grandchildren Thomas and Carmela Ragot; five loving stepsons Carmine, Richard, James (Beth), Mario, Daniel and beloved step-grandchildren; brother-in- law Tony Zappitelli (Connie); and many nieces and nephews.

Frank graduated from West View High School and received his BS and MS Degrees from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. He received his Doctor of Education from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. With an early career start as a high school teacher, Frank was proud of his career in teacher development. With his wife Carmela and their growing family, he moved to Daytona Beach in 1965 and began working at the Mary Karl Vocational School, Daytona Beach Junior College, now Daytona State College. He was instrumental in developing many of the vocational programs there - EMT, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Cosmetology and other key programs. Frank retired as Professor at his alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh, but continued to work as a substitute teacher in Volusia County Schools for many years, a reflection of his love of teaching.

Frank was a long-time member of the Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church, serving as Usher, Lector and Eucharist Minister and with many years of service to the Parish and St. Paul School.

He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1895 4th Degree, Past Faithful Navigator, Grand Knight and Member of the Color Corps. Frank exemplified these principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.

Frank enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Daytona Beach and Franklin, Massachusetts, especially family dinners and celebrations. He was a life-long learner and enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass Monday June 23rd, in St. Mary's Church, 1 Church Square Franklin at 7:00AM.

Donations may be made to Knights of Columbus, Council 1895 “Tootsie Roll Drive” to benefit people with intellectual disabilities or Halifax Health Foundation.
