Clifford Max Waggoner, 91, of Ventura, California, passed away on Friday June 13, 2025, at home with family by his side. Max was born in Missouri to TC and Wanda Waggoner on December 7, 1933. He was a Ventura County resident since 1937. He attended Ventura High School and graduated in 1950. He went on to join the Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he learned to be an electrician. Max loved his life. He had many interests. He was good with his hands and could fix almost everything. He loved being outside and growing plants of all kinds. He loved landscaping and was proud to bring beauty to Ventura. You could find him at Green Thumb 6 days a week. He was never too tired to help friends and family. He loved passing his wisdom along to his kids. Practical and honest, he was a great role model. Max was active in the Jaycees long ago. He looked forward to setting up landscape displays at the fair each year. Besides his family and friends, the thing he loved most was the Dodgers. Every game night, he’d turn on the radio and wait for Vin to announce that it was time for Dodger baseball. In his later years, he never missed a televised game and could recall details that would make you wonder if you had watched the same game.
Max is survived by his three children, Virginia (Jennifer and Christopher), Ron, Michelle/William Combs (Kristina), his niece Kathleen/Michael Hague and nephew Patrick/Linda Burdick. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan who he married in 1954. He is also preceded in death by his parents Thorburn and Wanda Waggoner as well as his sister Sue.
Graveside services will be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 2pm. It is at Max’s request that those who attend dress casually.
