Ezio Louis “Sam” Cini, 89, of Orchard Lane, Mystic, passed away Monday at Fairview of Groton.
Mr. Cini was born in Stafford Springs on November 2, 1917 the son of Ivan and Mary “Maria” (Fontanella) Cini. He was a 1935 graduate of Fitch High School and later served as an Electronics Technician Mate in the US Navy.
He retired from Naval Underwater Systems Center in the Surface Ship Sonar Systems Dept. as an Electronics Technician in 1980 after 30 years of service.
He was married to Angeanette M. (Fusaro) Cini in Westerly on September 29, 1951. Known as a loving, devoted couple, they enjoyed 55 years of marriage together before he sadly lost his beloved wife on July 23rd.
Mr. Cini had a great love of life, enjoying gardening, playing baseball, basketball, tennis, and bowling with his siblings. He also will be remembered for his love of his cats and always by having candy ready for nieces and nephews upon their visits. He was also a member of the Groton Lodge of Elks.
He is survived by a sister, June Squadrito of Mystic; nieces and nephews including Brian Cini, Debra Peiffer, Lauren Davis, Roberta Scroggins-Newton, Jannina Wagner, and Christina McLaughlin; grandnieces and nephews including Jaqi Collins and husband Kenneth and their children Tony, Casi, and Joey; and many close friends including John Allen of Mystic.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Hector J. and Attillio Cini.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 8:30-9:30am, followed by a Graveside Funeral Service at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly at 10am.
