Paul Lee Holst Sr., 86, of Franklin, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025. Born on January 14, 1939, in Mount Kisco, New York, he was the son of the late John Oscar Holst and Theresa (Farrow) Holst. Paul spent nearly his entire life in Franklin, where he built a life rooted in love, family, and unwavering dedication.
While serving in the U.S. Air Force, Paul met the love of his life, Margaret (Barrett) Holst, while stationed in England. The two were inseparable from the start, sharing nearly 56 years of marriage before Margaret’s passing in April of 2018. Their 63rd wedding anniversary would have been celebrated on May 12, 2025 — a bond that remained unbroken in spirit.
Together, they raised two children, Stephanie and Paul Holst Jr., both now also laid to rest. Paul found deep joy in family life, especially in vacations to Cape Cod, cheering on his favorite sports teams, enjoying fresh seafood, and challenging himself with crossword puzzles — which he rarely left unfinished.
Paul is survived by his brother, John Holst, and wife Donna of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and his sister, Bonnie Masi, and husband Charlie of Bonita Springs, Florida. He was also the brother of the late Carl Holst of Franklin. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews: Mary, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Martha, Merredith, Laurie, Keira, Charlie Jr., and Matthew — all of whom held a special place in his heart.
One of Paul’s final and most cherished moments was witnessing the wedding of his granddaughter, Jessie Lee (Morgan) Fontaine, to her husband, Tyler Fontaine — a milestone he had long dreamed of and was determined to see. He held on with quiet strength and deep love, finding peace in the joy of being there as she began her new chapter in life.
Paul will be remembered for his steady presence, quick wit, and deep devotion to those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the honor of knowing him.
A celebration of Paul's life will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin with a service at 5:30 p.m.
