MEREDITH ---- Naomi Linda Weeks, 68, known to many as Linda, left us too soon on the night of Thursday, January 16, 2025, with her daughter by her side.
Born on July 20, 1956, Linda was a long-time resident of Meredith where she was connected closely with the community as a local mail carrier.
For 35 years, Linda was devoted to the Meredith Post Office, building relationships with not only her coworkers, but most of the residents along her mail route she considered family. She was known for her quick wit, humor, and tough love. She was not one to sugarcoat things and while she may have been quite unfiltered at times, those who were close with her knew underneath it all was a heart that cared deeply for those she connected with.
In 2024, Linda lost her companion of 18 years, Peter K. Weeks, and his absence left a hole in Linda’s life that she carried with her. The two shared a special bond and despite the grief, Linda continued to approach life with the same strength that had always defined her.
Linda’s life took a tragic turn after a car accident which revealed she was battling cancer. Despite these challenges, she faced them with strength and determination that she applied to everything in life. She was nothing if not resilient. Once informed the extreme severity of her illness, Linda wanted nothing else than to return to the comfort of her Meredith home, surrounded by her closest loved ones.
Linda is survived by her two children, Robert Weeks, Jr. and Kristy Weeks, and was a loving grandmother to Jayda, Aubrey, Carter, Jaxson, and Bryson, as well as her sister, Wilma O’Haire, and nephew Gregory “Richie-Rich” Mortrude ll, along with several cousins. Though her style of affection was unique, she always had a soft spot for her grandchildren and nephew, always wanting to dote and brag about them endlessly.
She had a passion for thrifting with an impressive assortment of antiques and collectibles she accumulated over her lifetime. She developed a dedicated interest in sports while occupying her down time and closely followed NASCAR, the NBA and NHL. She also enjoyed regular meals at George’s Diner and rarely missed her daily stop at Meredith Station for her newspaper and tickets. She could often be found at either place chatting with the employees, locals, friends and family.
Linda’s strength, humor, unwavering honesty, protective nature and strong will can never be forgotten. She may not have always said the words you expected to hear, but she told it like it was, never bit her tongue and was always quick with a variety of one-liners, jokes and funny stories she enjoyed to share with all.
She will be missed deeply by her family, her community and anyone who had the privilege of getting to know her.
