Obituary

Bruce Wayne Ribeiro, 56, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina died Saturday August 19, 2006 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Mary (Silva) and John R. Ribeiro, Sr., he lived in New Bedford for most of his life before moving to North Carolina 15 years ago.

He was a former member of the International Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Ribeiro was formerly employed by Chamberlain Manufacturing where he manufactured combat artillery and weaponry for the government. He later worked as a staff counselor for The Transitional House/Rehabilitation Unit of North Carolina.

He was a graduate of New Bedford High School. He enjoyed playing basketball and was a lifelong sports enthusiast.

Survivors include five brothers, John "Ribs", Jr., Kenneth R., and Joaquim "Jack", all of New Bedford, Mark of Hawaii, and Peter Mark of Provincetown; two sisters, Patricia Rose of New Bedford and Doreen Tellewoyan of Peoria, IL; his companion, Glenda Shipman of North Carolina; his former wife Karen Ribeiro of North Carolina; three stepchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.


He was the brother of the late Gerald, Richard, Peter Mark, Richard Allan, and Adelina Ribeiro.

His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 PM prior to the service. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
