Verkin was born in Syria to Karnig and Arousiag Boyadjian. Verkin was the second oldest of ten children and was sixteen years old when her father suddenly passed. She made it her mission to help provide a better life for her family which she certainly accomplished. Verkin was instrumental in bringing her siblings to America and made sure they were enrolled in higher education and set them on the road to success.
She courageously moved to Watertown Massachusetts on a nursing visa and pursued her education as a registered nurse and midwife. Verkin obtained her Masters in maternal and child health from Boston University school of nursing and continued her education at Simmons College of Nursing and Frontier School of Nurse Midwifery in Kentucky. She strongly advocated for her patients whether it was at the VA Hospital in Clarksburg, West Virginia, The Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown Massachusetts or Boston City Hospital (Boston Medical Center) delivering babies as a nurse midwife. Verkin was passionate about maternal and child health and was proud to have delivered over two thousand babies.
Verkin most loved her two grandchildren Andrew and Mark who loved her tremendously. She loved caring for them as infants, and spending time with them and making sure they were well fed, whether it was her fasoulia and pilaf, homemade yogurt, or Easter choreg. She loved teaching them Armenian and encouraging them to work hard in school and always reach for the stars.
