George L. DeCosta, 65, of Mattapoisett died August 20, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was the husband of Christie L. (Rice) DeCosta.
Born in Mattapoisett, the son of Helen (Lake) DeCosta of Mattapoisett and the late Edward DeCosta, he lived in Mattapoisett all of his life.
Mr. DeCosta was formerly employed as an electrician with IBEW Local #233 in Lakeville and was the wire inspector for the Town of Mattapoisett for many years.
He was an avid golfer.
Mr. DeCosta served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; 3 daughters, Caroline Demers, and her husband James, of Dartmouth, Suzanne Barrows, and her husband Dana, of Mattapoisett and Kathy Peterson, and her husband Shaun, of Rochester; a son, Michal Gajewski, and his wife Kate, of Whitman; 3 brothers, Edward DeCosta of Fairhaven, James DeCosta of California and Thomas DeCosta of Marion; 3 sisters, Anna Anderson of Lake Tahoe, Deborah Fahey of Fairhaven and Margaret Alves of Mattapoisett; 12 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will form on Wednesday, August 23rd at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. Mattapoisett followed by his Graveside Service at 10 AM in Cushing Cemetery, Mattapoisett. Visiting hours Tuesday, August 22nd from 4-8 PM.
