Edward P. Collins, Jr., 95, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday June 8th. He was the husband of the late Mary F. (Feeney) Collins. Ed and Mary had been married for 59 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Edward P. Collins, Sr. and Elizabeth M. (McGair) Collins, He had lived in Providence before moving to Barrington.
He was a veteran of the US Army.
Edward was a Chemist for ICI Americas in Dighton, MA for over 35 years before retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Royal Travelers Club of New England. He liked a good Manhattan in a wine glass and going to Twin River Casino in Lincoln. He did not like talking on the telephone.
He leaves his children, Edward P. Collins, III and his wife Allison of Taunton, MA, Jane Walker of North Providence, Michael Collins and his wife Cheryl of Rumford, Mary Ray and her husband James of Rehoboth, MA, Paul Collins and his wife Theresa of Wilmington, MA, and Mark Collins and his wife Jennifer of Indian Island, SC. He was the grandfather Christopher, Andrew, Matthew, Ryan, Davis and Maggie Collins, Jimmy, Jeffrey and Justin Ray and Billy Walker and great grandfather of Caden and Cayley Walker, Emerson and Liam Collins and Callie Ray and Baby Ray. He was the father-in-law of the late William J. Walker, III. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Merrill, H. Marie Gallivan and Leo F. Collins.
His funeral will be held Friday June 13th at 9am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation will be held Thursday June 12th from 4pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the St. Philip School, 618 Putnam Pike, Smithfield, RI 02828.
