PLYMOUTH ---- River Gogh Moon, age 27, of Plymouth, NH, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, due to complications from extensive medical issues.
A proud non-binary and transgender individual, River was known for their fierce intelligence, boundless compassion and deep sense of justice. Artistic and brilliant, they brought light and complexity to every room they entered.
They were just one semester away from earning their college degree, a milestone that reflected years of resilience, curiosity and quiet determination.
River is survived by their mother Deborah Mills, brother Joshua Mills, sister-in-law Anna Orbovich, aunts, Jennifer Mills, Sue Devoid and Lisa Schoettle, uncle John Schoettle, cousins, Olivia Mills, Nick and Yira Schoettle, John and Sarah Schoettle and Zach and Shadae Schoettle; who all supported them endlessly and will carry forward their memory with pride, grief and enduring love.
River was a dedicated student at Plymouth State University, just shy of earning their dual degrees including a BFA in Art and B.S. in Museum Studies through the Interdisciplinary Studies program. Consistently on the President’s List for academic recognition, River also received the Karl Drerup Award during their Capstone Exhibition in Spring of 2025.
In their own words as a multimedia artist:
“I navigate the boundaries between collage, mixed media and painting, constructing visual landscapes that invite open interpretation. My process is one of intuitive exploration, where found objects, layers of paint, and fragmented paper coalesce into textured surfaces.”
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Trans Lifeline, a national, trans-led crisis hotline offering peer support and chosen-family care. Though based broadly across North America, it serves NH residents with a dedicated helpline: 1-877-565-8860, supporting trans or LGBTQ youth.
At this time there will be no services.
