Obituary

CHICOPEE – Catherine G. (Garvey) Pickul, 84, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on February 9, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Kearney) Garvey. She was raised in Springfield, attended Our Lady of Hope Elementary School, graduated from the High School of Commerce and moved to Willimansett in 1971 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was the longtime office manager for the Eyesight and Surgery in Springfield. She previously worked for the Travelers Insurance Agency and was the secretary for the St. Pierre and Son Funeral Home in Springfield and Chicopee. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Henry F. “Hank” Pickul who was Called Home on September 10, 2021. They were married on November 5, 1966 at the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving and devoted children, Carl M. Pickul and his wife, Kristen, of Hudson, FL, Angela M. Denehy and her husband, Angelo, of Chicopee and Mick Burns of Sandisfield; her three cherished grandchildren, Joseph McClain and his wife, Maghan, and Jacqueline and Jeremy Pickul; her three cherished great grandsons, Joseph Daniel McClain, Jr., Noah Henry McClain, and Kaleb Henry Bruso; her dear brother, Michael Garvey and his wife, Patricia, of Chicopee; her two dear brothers-in-law, Philip Pickul of Springfield and Joseph Pickul and his husband, Paulo Lana, of Montague; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and numerous friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear brother, John P. “Jack” Garvey who was Called Home on April 21, 2020 and his wife, Margaret R. “Peggy” (Bergdoll) Garvey who was Called Home on April 20, 2022; and her dear sister, Mary Ellen Garvey who was Called Home on June 30, 2021. Her family would like to thank Mary-Jo for all her assistance and the dedicated doctors, nurses and medical staff at Mercy Medical Center. Her funeral services will be private.
