Obituary

James J. Korbut, age 71, passed away on June 1, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center. He was born on July 24, 1953, in Springfield, son of the late Joseph and Alexandra (Sliwa) Korbut. James honorably served as a court officer for the Chicopee District Court and the Springfield Superior Court for over 40 years before his retirement. James filled his days with the things he loved most: gardening, cooking and spending time with his family. He took pride and found true joy in caring for his yard, leaving the world a bit better. He was the “King of Culinary Arts” who cooked delicious meals that brought people together. His family often leaned on his wisdom in the kitchen and calls for his advice. He also found great joy in watching sports alongside his daughter Kaelyn and cherished the life he shared with his Joe-Joe. Special thank you to the nurses and staff on the Katz Oncology Unit at Baystate Medical Center for their expert care and compassion. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Joe-Ann (Mullen) Korbut of Chicopee; son, James Korbut and his wife Christine of West Springfield; two daughters, Sarah Gallo and her husband Brett Gallo of Robbinsville, NJ, and Kaelyn Korbut of Chicopee; his brother, John Korbut and his wife Robin of South Hadley; his sister, Judy Orlen and her husband Gregg of Granby; and his five beloved granddaughters each of whom brought him immense pride and joy Allison Korbut, Elle Gallo, Brooke Korbut, Vivian Gallo, and Peyton Korbut.
