Robert E Beal
December 12, 1931-May 31, 2025

Robert E. (Bob) Beal (93), passed from this life, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 31, 2025 following a brief illness.

Bob, the son of Alice (Myers) Beal and Otis Beal, Sr., was a lifelong resident of Anderson, Indiana, and employed by the Indiana Gas Company (Vectren) for 35 years. Bob started as a storeroom parts clerk for Indiana Gas and then became a street foreman and supervisor and then moved to the Safety and Training Director, first in Muncie, Indiana then state-wide based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1977, he became the Superintendent of Anderson’s Indiana Gas operation, and he retired on January 1, 1989.

Bob married the love of his life, Anna Marie (Rigdon) Beal on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1950, and they enjoyed 67 years together before Marie passed in 2018.

Bob and Marie were avid travelers and campers, and the family spent many wonderful years exploring parks and sites around the United States. Bob was also a life-long learner, and he and Marie attended night classes at Ball State University for several years. Prior to attending Ball State, Bob graduated from Anderson High School (he and Marie were active in AHS reunions) and attended Indiana Business College and the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Institute of Gas Technology. At Ball State, Bob explored his love of art, and he was prolific in creating paintings, sculptures, woodworking projects, and numerous craft projects. Bob was also a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Anderson Rotary International, the Anderson Chamber of Commerce, the local United Way, and served on the safety committees of the American Gas Association and the Indiana Gas Association. In their retirement years, Bob and Marie enjoyed wintering in Ellenton, Florida and volunteering at the Anderson YMCA teaching swimming to and working with children with disabilities. In addition, Bob and Marie enjoyed being active-- walking, swimming, and riding their bikes, tackling puzzles and games of all kinds and spending time with their beloved grandchildren, Kevan and Kaitlin.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, his parents, and both of his siblings, Otis E. Beal, Jr. and Doris Boaz.

Bob is survived by his two daughters, Denice K. Beal of Anderson and Tonia Beal Carriger (Jim) of Indianapolis; his grandson, Kevan Scott Carriger; his granddaughter, Kaitlin Nicole Carriger; as well as numerous well-loved nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his dear and loving companion, Sue Evans. As Bob explained to one of his many dedicated caregivers during his brief illness, he had a long and GOOD life.
