Charles H. Vitt, Jr., passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services in Lawrence, Massachusetts, at the age of 89.
Born on January 12, 1936, in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of the late Marian (Curran) Vitt and Charles H. Vitt, Sr.
Charles graduated from Boston Trade High School in Boston, MA, where he laid the foundation for a lifelong career rooted in precision and dedication. He went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force before embarking on a successful professional journey as a Quality Control Engineer at Honeywell/BULL.
A devoted family man, Charles was predeceased by his cherished wife of 58 years, Janet (VanMeter) Vitt of Tewksbury, MA. Together they built a life centered around love and family. In 2011, they joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary—a milestone that reflected their enduring bond.
Charles is lovingly remembered by his children: Michelle Provencher and her husband Roland of Hudson, NH; Charles Vitt of Newton, NH; David Vitt and his partner Cathy Tebo of Dracut, MA; and Christine Carter and her husband Daniel of Tewksbury, MA. He was a proud grandfather to Nicolle Elsten and Ryan Provencher both of Hudson, NH; Jessica Vitt of Ware, MA; David Vitt of Boston, MA; Jonathan Vitt of Newton, NH; Eva Carter of Lowell, MA; and Daniel Carter of Tewksbury, MA. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Luke Doyle and Aleah Phillion.
He is also survived by his loving sister Constance Dunbar of Weymouth, MA and his Brother-in-law John Barber of Weymouth, MA. Along with his loving parents, Charles was preceded in death by his dear sisters Marie Graham of Squantum, MA and Kathleen Barber of Weymouth, MA. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Charles had a wide array of interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He was an avid bowler and chess enthusiast who appreciated the strategy and focus both games required. A skilled photographer, he found beauty in detail through the lens. A lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, one of his most joyful moments came when they won the World Series in 2004. The second love of his life though, was his Jeep CJ-7 Renegade. He loved the outdoors and camping; and many a time you would see his canoe atop his beloved Jeep.
Charles embraced life with a quiet, soulful outlook. In retirement, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren and found fulfillment in helping others by driving elderly patients to their appointments. He especially enjoyed coastal vacations with his wife Janet and loved visiting many of the New England coastal lighthouses—places that echoed his quiet strength and faith. A man grounded in faith, Charles was a longtime parishioner at St. William's Catholic Church in Tewksbury, MA.
