Obituary

LACONIA ---- Gail Sauve Sibley, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was 72.

Born and raised in Willimantic, CT, Gail spent much of her life there. It's where she raised her two children, Wendy and Andrew. But she also had a second "home" in South Korea. After graduating from the University of Hartford, Gail went on to become a nuclear power plant computer programmer for Westinghouse for many years. Her job took her often to Korea (and France) and Gail loved the culture and the people. She would visit the friends she made there whether she was on a work assignment or not. She loved her job and was proud of her accomplishments. She was devoted to the work she did and when the year 2000 rolled around, Gail stayed at the power plant to make sure nothing went wrong. But Gail was also savvy and used the opportunity to bargain for extra vacation time and a trip to Australia to see her nieces, her "little girls."

As much as Gail loved her travels overseas, she adored the friends and family she had here. In addition to her children, Gail doted on her two grandkids, Sam and Sophie. Gail came from a big family which perfectly suited her gregarious nature. She loved the Picard and Sauve family reunions. Gail also created more family—and brought her two worlds together—by hosting foreign exchange students from Korea at her home in Willimantic.

Gail was opinionated and feisty. Those who knew her also knew the famous eye roll she offered up when she disagreed with something. You always knew where you stood with Gail. But she was also kind and generous. If someone needed a home, you could count on Gail. If finances were a struggle, Gail was there to offer that support.

Her caring extended to her pets, of which there were many. Hers was a heart of gold and the lives of those she cared about are better for having her in them.

After retiring in 2018, Gail bought a second house in Laconia, New Hampshire, where she lived until her passing.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Gail is survived by her siblings and their spouses: Mark, Jimmy (Doreen Mueller), Elaine (Lisa Zowada), Patty, Linda (Laura Zawadzke), Jackie, Denise (Nello Compagnino), and Tommy. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and dear friends Chris and Mary. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Rita and Jeff Sauve and by a brother-in-law, Richard Copeland.

A private celebration of life will take place at a future date.

Donations in Gail's name can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital online at stjude.org or by mail to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
