Joe Portier, 82, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Monday, May 26, 2025, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia
Graveside services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Frank Cemetery in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. James Griffin officiating. The family will greet friends following the services at the cemetery.
Mr. Portier was born June 14, 1942, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late William Walter “Bill” & Nancy Whitley Portier. He was a 1962 graduate of Irwin County High School. He worked for over 50 years with the Meeks CPA firm. He was a Mason and served on Ocilla City Council. Mr. Portier always had a project going and was always willing to help others when needed. He was a jack of all trades who enjoyed fishing and quail hunting. He was a longtime supporter of Irwin County football and baseball, holding season tickets for many years. He was a member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Walter & Elizabeth Portier of Irwin County; a daughter, Sandi & Brian Sumner of Irwin County; grandchildren: Trey & Alex Norris Portier, Maribeth Portier Potter & Wyatt, Savana Douglas, and Ellis Douglas; great-grandchildren: Woods Portier and Eli Douglas; two sisters: Joan Bennett of Tifton and Jeannie Ellis of Merritt Island, Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Woods Portier; brothers: Shaw Portier, Damon Portier, Harry Portier, Jimmy Portier, and Johnny Portier; and two sisters: Elizabeth Rayburn and Annie George Stephens.
