Bernard J. Martineau “ Uncle Bernie “, 77 of Salem, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 22, 2025 following a long illness. He was the loving husband and best friend of Ginette M. (Richard) Martineau with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Henri and Irene (Marquis) Martineau. Bernie served in the Army Reserves for seven years following his high school and Essex Agricultural School graduation. For many years he worked in retail sales for auto parts distributors, but most of his career was as Motor Pool Fleet Manager for the City of Salem Department of Public Works.
Throughout their married life, he and Ginette enjoyed many hobbies and
activities together, including tennis, basketball, cycling, scooters and various trips throughout New England and Canada. Uncle Bernie was very religious and a devoted catholic who was an active member of the former St. Joseph Parish and currently Ste. Anne Parish of Salem.
In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his son Richard J. Martineau of Salem, his three sisters, Sister Irene Martineau, SASV of Marlboro, Jeannine and husband Arthur Francis of Salem, and Annette O’Brien of Wellesley, and brothers, Jean Guy and Jean Claude Martineau both of Salem. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Jason Martineau and brothers, Henry J., Father “Larry” Laurier Martineau, Maurice, Joseph & Richard Martineau and sister, Mary Brien.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at Ste. Anne Church 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 10:00 to 11 45 AM followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM.
