Obituary

On Friday, November 6, 1936 a one-of-a-kind man was born. His name was George Valton de Silva. He was the son of Arnott and Mary de Silva.

George lived in Santa Cruz with his parents and six siblings Rudolph, Errol, David, Vernon, Verna and Vilma. As an adult he spoke of the struggles of this large family but also recalled those days fondly. He talked and laughed about all the mischief he, his brothers and cousins would get into.

At a young age of about 11, George show his parents his determination to make his own decisions - he left school and refused to return. He then began doing small jobs to help support his family and himself. Through the generosity of a family friend, he was tutored at night and completed his education.

As an adult, George found a career he excelled at - sales! He was a great salesman and worked for several different companies in Trinidad. He was often featured as the “Top Salesman” in companies newspapers advertisements. Not only was he in print media but in his younger days, he was also in a television commercial, which he was very proud of!

George lived his life the way he wanted to and with “no regrets” as he once said. On Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, he passed away peacefully in Boston.

George is predeceased by his parents, Arnott and Mary de Silva, by his siblings, Vilma de Silva, Verna Anderson, Vernon de Silva and Rudolph de Silva, two of his children Gezille Proudfoot and Nigel de Silva and his granddaughter Mariah Proudfoot.

He leaves behind his siblings, Errol and David de Silva, his children and their spouses, Larry and Odile de Silva, Karen de Silva and George Kalevas, Lisa and Beltron Olton , Michele Markley, Pamela de Silva, Sean de Silva, Sheldon de Silva and Melissa Kirchhoff, Gregory Proudfoot, Jonathan de Silva and Ashley de Silva. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Stefan, Kerri, Niccolo, John, Gabriella, Lauren, Sophia, Alanna, Cristian, Brandon, Daniel, Dane, Zachary, Ariana, Zoe, Olivia, Nathan, Fox, Paul, Dylan, Joshua and Jordan and his great grandchildren Ryan, Zion, Oliver and Cora.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28th at 11 AM at Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, Boston, MA 02127-2846
