Noank - Richard "Dick" Neil Robertson, passed away peacefully May 20, 2025, at his home in Noank at the age of 83. He was the son of Margaret and Neil Robertson who predeceased him.
Dick had an ideal childhood growing up in Noank and attending local schools. He was in the first second grade class at the Noank School on Prospect Hill, where he would later reside. Dick graduated from Fitch High School, Class of 1960. Later, he would be in the first class to graduate from Mohegan Community College, then continuing on to CCSU where he earned a degree in industrial technology. Dick joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve in 1967, serving aboard the Eagle for his active duty.
Dick enjoyed a long career in newspaper advertising, starting with the Niantic News and ending with the Journal Register Shoreline papers, including the Dolphin, the Navy's paper. Following his retirement in 2006, he went to work as a driver for Academy Point in Mystic. Dick made many friends with both staff and residents as he carried out his duties. Dick's love of "touring" was an asset as he often took residents on scenic rides, many times past his own house on Prospect Hill.
Dick was a proud member of the Niantic Rotary Club, joining in the mid-70s and continuing to the present. He served as president in 1998, and was twice a Paul Harris Fellow. Dick was also involved with Big Brothers of Southeastern CT, serving as president from 1986 to 1987.
An avid UConn basketball fan, Dick celebrated the women's championship game this year at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with family members and friends. Nurses said his was the only room with the game on - having a great deal of fun.
Dick is survived by his wife Judy; nephews, Bryan Burdick (Therese), Wayne Burdick (Joyce) and Luke McGill; nieces: Vicki Burdick (Verne), Shannon McGill, Karen Mulhern (Peter) and Susan Walker; and brothers-in-law, Tom Walker (Carol) and John McGill (Ketty). He was predeceased by sisters, Kathleen Burdick and Cynthia McGill.
Dick's family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Niantic Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 339, Niantic CT 06357 or the CT Humane Society, 169 Old Colchester Road, Quaker Hill CT 06375.
