Herman C. Mixon, Sr., 71, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Friday, August 18, 2006, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, August 20, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla, with Elder Jerry Barrs, Rev. Ralph Griffin and Rev. Andrew Wilder officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ocilla from 7-9 Saturday evening.
Mr. Mixon was born June 1, 1935, in Irwin County, to the late Curtis and Elma Tucker Mixon. He lived in Irwin County most of his life. Mr. Mixon was a retired Road Construction Superintendent. His career spanned 48 years, beginning with Coffee Construction, E. A. Mann & Company, which later became Everette Dykes Grassing Company. He attended the Ocilla Baptist Church and the Steadfast Seekers Sunday School Class.
Mr. Mixon is survived by his second grade sweetheart and wife of over 52 years: Myrtle Lee Mixon of Ocilla; son and daughter-in-law: Carroll & Lynn Mixon of Tifton; daughter & son-in-law: Cathy & Bryan Golden of Tifton; son & daughter-in-law: James & Dawn Mixon of Fitzgerald; 5 grandchildren: Duane (Jessica) Mixon, Matthew Mixon, Zack Golden, Becky Golden, Michael (Heather) Coffey; 1 great-grandson: Blake Coffey; sister: Faye Smith of Fitzgerald; brother: Wayne “Yogie” Mixon of Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by brothers, Bobby and Jerry Mixon and 3 infant brothers.
