Mattie Ruth Stallworth Frazier, of Mattapan, Massachusetts, departed this life and entered Heaven's gates on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Hebrew Senior Life and Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale, Massachusetts. She was born on February 15, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Elijah and Mary Liza Rowell Stallworth.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, James Ervin Frazier, her mother and father-in-law, John Frazier and Louise Frazier. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Stallworth, Jacqueline Freeman, Corlis A. Davis, and brothers, Edward G. Stallworth, Bernard Stallworth, and Charles
Stallworth.
After completing her secondary education in Alabama, Mattie stepped out on faith, leaving her family home to relocate to Boston, Massachusetts. She was a proud retired nurse who spent many years serving her community at various healthcare facilities, culminating at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. There she served many patients, a position that filled her with more pride and joy than any other occupation. She was an avid gardener who also enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, and frugal shopping.
Mattie was a virtuous woman who loved her husband with unrelenting passion. Although no children were born of their union, she truly cherished and adored their family pet, Tokee.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memory, her niece, Sharon Stallworth of Carmel, New York, two sisters-in law—Brenda Frazier-Dewitt of Chadbourn, North Carolina and Sheila Frazier of Washington, D.C.; three brothers-in-law—Billy Frazier (Cecilia) of Wellington, Nevada, Norman Frazier and Terry Frazier of Lexington, North Carolina. Mattie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Delia Smith-Davis of Boston, Massachusetts.
