ROMANO - Of East Bridgewater, formerly of Abington, Sebastian J. “Jimmy”, 82, husband of Jennie J. (Caruso) Romano, father of Joseph Romano of East Bridgewater and his wife Bonnie, Josephine MacPhail and her husband Edward of Abington, and Marie Borgatti of Peabody; brother of Dominic Romano of Mashpee, Anna Ricercato of Winchester, Olga Romano of Andover, and Vera Petrocelli of Everett. He is survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Sarah Gilberto, Mary Romano, Olivia Picaro, and Salvatoro Romano.
“Jimmy” Romano was a retired public accountant and a Navy veteran of World War II. He died Friday at Sachem Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a period of failing health.
Born in Boston son of Joseph and Josephine (Giornibelli) Romano. He attended Boston schools and Bentley College. He was also formerly a resident of Abington for over 50 years.
He worked for Lander and Alsher, an accounting firm in Canton, as an accountant for 20 years before retiring.
While in the Navy he served aboard the USS Achernar.
Mr. Romano was and avid reader and enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy.
Funeral from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, (Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman, Monday at 8:15am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bridget Church of Abington at 9:00am. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery of Rockland. Visiting hours are Sunday 3-7pm.
