John “Sean” Greene, of Braintree, formerly of Mynish, Carna, County Galway, Ireland, passed away on May 18, 2025.
Beloved son of the late Patrick and Bridget (Mulkerrins) Greene. Loving brother of Maureen Harte of Castlerea, County Roscommon; Nora Morrisson and her husband Alfred of Weymouth; Padraig Greene and his wife Bridie of Norwood; Eileen O’Connor and her husband Maurice of Needham; Michael Greene of Mynish, County Galway; and Margaret Sharkey and her husband Joseph of Annagry, County Donegal. Predeceased by his siblings Sally Greene of Mynish, County Galway; Peter Greene of Holbrook; Teresa Dundass of Kilkerrin, County Galway; and Kathleen Greene of Mynish, County Galway. Beloved in-law of Marie Greene of Holbrook; Jimmy Dundass of Kilkerrin, County Galway; and the late Jim Harte of Castlerea, County Roscommon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Sean was born on March 24, 1945, in Mynish, a beautiful island off the coast of Connemara in County Galway. He fondly remembered his youth spent playing with his beloved siblings, attending school, and playing Gaelic football for the local team.
He emigrated to Boston on May 6, 1971, where he continued his passion for Gaelic football in America. Many of his siblings also emigrated, and they supported one another as they built new lives together.
On May 6, 1985, Sean began working for the Boston Water and Sewer Commission and was a proud member of the union local lodge 100. At the time of his passing, he had dedicated over 40 years of service to the Commission. He was known not only for his deep knowledge and strong work ethic, but also as a friend and mentor. His colleagues became like family, and he was affectionately regarded as a legend in the workplace.
Sean will be remembered as a devoted brother and uncle, a hardworking and humble man, and a loyal friend to all who knew him.
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Wednesday, May 28th at 10:00am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa of Avila Church at 11:00am.
