Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Albert Fontaine who passed away at St Anne’s Hospital on May 13, 2025 at the age of 87. He was the husband of Theresa M. (Rapoza) Fontaine, they shared 53 years of marriage. A beloved father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor, Albert was a pillar of strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication.

Albert was born in Fall River, son of the late Ovila and Emilia (Valliere) Fontaine and had resided in Westport for most of his life.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Albert also gave back to his community by coaching Little League and basketball. He was a communicate of Our Lady of Grace Church.

Prior to a forced retirement just 7 years ago he was a dedicated independent distributor for HP Hood. For over 60 years his legendary work ethic and commitment earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. He took great pride in his work, and cherished all his customers some of which he had for over 2 decades.

Outside of work, Albert was a passionate sports fan. He could often be found cheering on his beloved Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics, sharing in the highs and lows with family and friends.

A lover of nature, Albert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He delighted in bird watching and took great care in feeding the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks in his neighborhood, becoming a familiar and friendly face to both his human and animal neighbors.

Albert also enjoyed the thrill of the lottery and scratch tickets, always hopeful that luck was just around the corner.

Survivors along with his wife include his son: Keith M. Fontaine and his friend Christine Sousa of Westport; his daughter: Kelly Fontaine and her spouse Eric Huard of Westport; 2 brothers: Norman Fontaine and his wife Bonnie of Swansea and Roger Fontaine of FL; 2 grandchildren: Kyle Fontaine and Quinn Huard; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Robert Fontaine, Therese Thibodeau, Paul “Butch" Fontaine, Gerald Fontaine, and Raymond Fontaine.

Albert will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and community spirit. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

A memorial mass will be held to celebrate Albert’s life and will be held for family and friends at Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport on May 31, 2025 at 10:30 A.M.

Interment will be private.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations may be made to Massachusetts Audubon Society in honor of his love for nature and community at https://www.massaudubon.org
