Obituary

Ernest “Ernie” J. Morgan, 90, a longtime resident of Abington, Massachusetts passed away May 16th at South Shore Hospital after a period of declining health.

Born in Whitman, Massachusetts on March 3, 1935, son of Arthur Morgan and Madeline (Frasier) Morgan. He graduated from Whitman High School in 1953 and Boston University in 1960 with the GI Bill after serving in the Army. He earned his Master of Education from the State College at Bridgewater in 1963. He worked as a United States History teacher in the Whitman schools for 34 years.

He was the husband of the late Mary Lou Morgan. He leaves behind two sons Louis Morgan and his wife Heather, John Morgan and his wife Natalie, both of Abington, two daughters Dr. Julia Morgan of Rochester, NY, and Claire LaPointe and her husband Joseph of Abington, 9 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Sara Symons.

Ernie will be remembered for his love of reading, spinning a tale, quick wit, and his faith. He belonged to All Saints Episcopal Church his entire life. He enjoyed watching the local sports teams, spending time with his family and visiting any historical site no matter how obscure. In his retirement he provided day care services for several of his grandchildren and volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Abington. Until he was no longer able, he enjoyed walking and could be seen daily on his many routes that covered most of the streets in town.

Family and friends are invited to Ernie’s visiting hours on Thursday, May 22nd from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 11:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 44 Park Ave, Whitman. A burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers from My Personal Home Health Care and the South Shore Visiting Nurses Association for their compassionate care and support over the last several months. Their dedication and kindness are truly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, 455 Plymouth St., Abington.
