ELLSWORTH, ME__ Raymond J. Lewandowski, 98, of Deer Isle, Maine, formerly of Millbury, Massachusetts died peacefully surrounded by family, on Friday April 11, 2025 at Seal Cove Assisted Living. His beloved wife of 57 years, Hedwig Lopato Lewandowski died in 2007. Ray was born and grew up a true Worcester boy for 85 years until his move to join the family in Maine. He loved his new home, being so near to grand and great grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Stephen Lewandowski and wife Maryanne, grandchildren Emily and husband James Hildebrand, John and wife Jenny Lewandowski, Will and wife Natalie Briggs, great grandchildren Jack, Kate, Alida, Ray, and Leo, and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Linda and a granddaughter Valerie.
Dr. Lewandowski graduated from the Massachusetts College of Optometry. He practiced in Worcester for over fifty years prior to retiring in 1998. He was in the US Navy during World War II serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. During his life in Worcester, he was a parishioner at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. A kind and gentle man, Ray was always heard asking, “Can I give you a hand with that?” He most enjoyed attending family events and was proud of the kids’ accomplishments. He kept his eye on the Red Sox and avidly followed the goings-on in Washington.
A private service was held in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL SERVICE, 33 Ward St., Worcester, MA assisted the family with arrangements.
