Alan D. Whitford, 78, of Huntinghouse Road in Glocester passed away on Wednesday, May 14th in his home and surrounded by his family, friends. He was the husband of Patricia M. (Fellows) Whitford. They had been married for 34 years.
Born in West Warwick, the son of the late Walter A. and Mary E. (Gravier) Whitford. He had lived in Glocester for 46 years in his home that he had built with his own hands, previously living in Scituate. He was a US Air Force veteran.
Alan had been Superintendent for the Town of Glocester, Department of Public Works before retiring in 2009. He had also worked with Superior Healthcare Group and was the owner of the former AJ Medical, Inc.
Alan’s home where he lived was property that he poured his heart and soul into since 1979 to provide a sanctuary for his family, friends, and wildlife. We have no doubt that he is still here and will continue to enjoy this slice of heaven he created. He was an incredible father, grandfather, brother, husband, and friend. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed weekly games with friends and family. Family and friends were always important and he loved sitting and talking with all who came to visit and enjoy his home.
He was active in his community serving on the Glocester school committee, the Lions Club, and was a member of the American Legion.
Besides his wife he leaves his children, Jason Whitford of Glocester, Jessica Brewen and her husband Erik of Fort Collins, CO, a step-daughter Krista Faria and her husband Matt of Chepachet. He was the grandfather of Jason A. Whitford of Glocester and Kiyah R. Brewen of Fort Collins, CO. He was the step-grandfather of Layla M. Lataille of Chepachet. He was the brother of Ronald J. Whitford and his wife Edie of Scituate and Walter G. Whitford and his wife Linda of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was the husband to the late Nancy C. ( Yeager )Whitford.
A committal service with military honors will be held Friday May 23rd at 1:00 PM in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 22 from 4-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
