Obituary

WEBSTER – Alice M. (Libera) Szwarc, 87, a longtime resident of Webster, died Friday, August 18, in Hubbard Regional Hospital. Her husband of 55 years, Vincent R. Szwarc, died in 1997.

She leaves her daughter, Elizabeth Johnson and her husband John B. Williamson of Newton, MA; a granddaughter, Kathryn and her husband Eric Hoffman, and a great grandson, Maxwell, all of Charleston, MA; 8 nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Bernard Szwarc; cousins including John Libera and Jan Szwarc; and her good friends, Janina Kurpiel and her daughter Krystina. Her sister Helen Mroczka predeceased her in 1967.

She was born and raised in Southbridge, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Kawecka) Libera, and graduated from Mary E. Wells High School.


Mrs. Szwarc worked at the American Optical Company and later for many years as a bookkeeper at Wajer’s Express in Dudley.

She was a member of St. Joseph Basilica and its Saint Ann Sodality. She was the third president of the Saint Joseph Polish Women’s Club. She belonged to the Teamsters Local Union #170. For many years, she was a director of the Hubbard Regional Hospital Guild. She was a member of the Silver Dippers. She was known for her baking talents.

The funeral will be held Monday, August 21, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 11:15 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. Calling hours are from 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, August 20, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or donations made to Saint Joseph School, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570.
