Obituary

George Bruce McGlashan, a longtime resident of Medford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts, on Sunday, April 27, 2025. He was 94 years old. He was predeceased by his late wives, Louise (Rice) McGlashan and Jimmie (Geisert) McGlashan.

Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, on October 14, 1930, he was the beloved son of the late George A. and Blanche (Stevenson) McGlashan. Bruce grew up in North Quincy and graduated from North Quincy High School in 1949. In his youth, he developed a lifelong love of nature. He enjoyed hiking in the Blue Hills Reservation with his father, canoeing with his mother, and spending time at the ocean—swimming, sailing, camping, and fishing.

From 1950 to 1954, Bruce honorably served in the United States Air Force as a member of the Air Force Band. While stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, he met his first wife, Jimmie E. Geisert. They settled in Medford, Massachusetts, where they raised their five children.

Bruce was a hardworking man with many talents. He founded and owned B & M Painting Company. For many years, his second job was working as a member of the bull crew at the original Boston Garden. He later became a licensed Class C truck driver before retiring.

Bruce’s greatest passion, however, was music. A gifted musician, he played the saxophone and clarinet and was a founding member of The Embracables. He also played for several other bands, including the Shriners Band and The Silvertones.

A devoted First Baptist Church of Medford member, Bruce sang in the choir and frequently volunteered his time. He was known for his generous spirit, quiet humor, and unwavering kindness.

In his leisure time, Bruce enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son Jon. Summers were spent boating and swimming with his family on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. He also traveled to Maine with his daughter Kristen and her family. A passionate Boston sports fan, he faithfully followed the Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots.

Bruce will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his children: Lorna Jane Beckwith of Medford; Judy Lynn and her husband Stephen LaBella of Dracut; David Bruce and his wife MaryBeth McGlashan of Haverhill; Kristen Ruth and her husband Christopher Brown of Stow; and Jon Keith and his wife Angelina McGlashan of Windham, New Hampshire. He is also survived by his brother, Robert B., and his wife, Helen McGlashan, of Concord, New Hampshire; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave, Medford, MA 02155, on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 10:30 AM. All are welcome.
