Jeanne Martin Chouinard
Centenarian
Jeanne Martin Chouinard passed away on May 12, 2025 in the presence of her family at the age of 100. She was born August 29, 1924 in Québec, QC, Canada, the oldest of seven children. Jeanne lost her mother at age ten. She was raised in Rivière-Ouelle, QC where she received a Catholic education in the village school and at the parish convent. As a young woman she worked near Montréal in a munitions factory for the war effort. After WWII in 1946 she emigrated to the United States and worked at the 7-20-4 cigar factory in Manchester NH.
She met her husband, Georges H. Chouinard in 1949. They had seven children together before his death at age 47 in 1962, leaving her a widow at the young age of 37. She persevered through years of hardships raising six sons and one daughter, ranging in age from 1 year old to 11 years old as a single parent. She always regarded her family as being her greatest accomplishment. She was proud of her French Canadian heritage, spoke often of her childhood and the aunts and uncles who raised her. In later years she worked as a companion for elderly persons in the Manchester area during the colder months. She enjoyed long summers in Rivière-Ouelle at her childhood home tending her extensive flower gardens.
She is survived by her children, Normand, and his partner Michael Trotta, Guy, John and his wife Karen, Pierre and his wife Diana, Jacques and his wife Tammy, her daughter Louise, Marc and his wife Nadia, as well as two grandchildren, Georges H. Chouinard II, and Hannah Chouinard Kohzuk and her husband David Kozhuk, and one great-grandchild Avital Kozhuk.
She is also survived by her sister Charlotte Martin and her husband Christian Comeau, their children and grandchildren.
