Funeral services will be held on Sunday for Nathan Baseman of Revere, formerly of Chelsea. Mr. Baseman died on August 17, 2006 at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Swampscott. He was 83 years old.
Born in Chelsea, the son of the late Harris and Sarah (Cymble) Baseman, he was raised and educated in Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1940. Mr. Baseman entered the United States Army on March 11, 1943 in Boston and served throughout World War II with the Company āIā 362nd Infantry. He served as a rifleman in the Battle of the Northern Appennines Po Valley. Mr. Baseman was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant on November 21, 1945 from Camp Rucker, Alabama. After the war, Mr. Baseman opened and operated the Regent Deli in Melrose. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans - Prince Strauss Post #161 in Revere and Congregation Ahabot Shalom of Lynn. Mr. Baseman will be lovingly remember as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many fortunate people.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Annie (Goldberg) Baseman of Revere; his children, Etta L. Baseman of Revere and her partner Stilson N. Tomita of Arlington, Deborah and her husband Paul Sudenfield of Marblehead, Joseph H. And his wife Debbie Baseman of Lynn, and the late Sheila Costello; and his grandchildren, Maurice, Aviva, Daniel, Adam, Joshua, Derek, and Taylah. He was the brother of the late Bella Shapiro, Mollie Prusky, Frances Lehrer, Barney Baseman, Harry Baseman, Maurice Baseman, Joseph Baseman, and Lila B. Goldberg.
Funeral services will be held in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Avenue (Cary Square) CHELSEA on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Rabbi Avraham Kelman of Congregation Ahavat Sholom will officiate. Burial will follow in the Chevra Thilim of Boston Cemetery, Fuller St. Everett. Following the burial the family and friends will gather at Congregation Ahavat Sholom in Lynn for a Kiddish. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Debby and Paul Sudenfield, Marblehead Sunday through Friday 3-8 PM. Donations in Mr. Baseman's memory may be made to Cong.
