Salem
Marilyn T. (Lewis) Poitras, 80, of Salem, passed away Friday, May 9, 2025,at Kaplan Family Hospice House, following a long illness. She was the loving wife of Roger T. Poitras with whom she had a life time of love and dedication. Born in Saugus and raised in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Otis Scott and Mary Lillian (Muse) Lewis. The fifth of six siblings, the family survived many life challenges through church, music and family as their center. Marilyn first met Roger while working for Solid State Products. They married and devoted their entire lives to their family. Marilyn later worked for GTE Sylvania for many years. She retired as the friendliest bank teller, always proving to the penny. Devoted to her family, her favorite pastimes were at the beach, especially with the grandchildren. She also enjoyed getaways to the casinos, reading, drawing, bowling leagues, crafting, gardening and basketball. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their daughters, Wendy L.Poitras of Beverly, Bonnie A. Bertone and husband David, Tammy L. Walsh and husband Steven all of Salem, brother Warren S. Lewis and wife Linda of Florida. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, William J. Muse, Jr., Mathew T. Muse, Jessica R. Atwood, Janeen B. Atwood and Jared Bertone as well as many nieces and nephews: Jimmy Gallagher, Dyan Iapicca, Alana Theriault, Lenee Theriault, Dana Theriault, Deborah Spencer, Michael Lewis, Kevin Lewis, Denise Altman, and Patrick Poitras. Marilyn also leaves her lifelong family friends, Richard and Barbara Levesque. She was predeceased by Donald Gallagher, Alan Theriault, Timothy Spencer, and Kimberly Carty. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Jacqueline Gallagher, Lorraine Kneeland, Geraldine Sullivan and Karen MacDougall. Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Her funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 14th at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
