Obituary

Doris M Gagnon (Boucher) passed peacefully on May 10, 2025 at BrightView Senior Living in Danvers after a brief illness, where she was surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born on January 4, 1931 in Aroostook County ME where she lived in St Agatha and Fort Kent and was one of 16 children born to Patrick and Yvonne (Picard) Boucher. After spending much of her youth with her family on a potato farm, she received her teaching degree and taught 3rd grade for two years in Fort Kent. In 1952, she leftfor a 5th grade teaching position in Beverly, MA at the Washington Elementary School. While living in Beverly, she met her husband of 63 years, Roger A. Gagnon, at a dance club at the HillTop in Saugus. The couple married in 1956 and settled in Salem where she continued her career in the Salem Public schools after a break to start her family and care for their five children.She also earned additional credits for a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Salem State College in 1972 and continuedas a Title I teacher.
Doris greatly enjoyed the simple things in life – family gatherings, a good book, going to local plays, community concerts, singing in the choir, taking walks,cooking, vacations with family, and word games. Although gentle in nature and very humble, she was a strong, self-reliant, independent person who made friends easily and enjoyed meeting new people. She was both the rock of her family and the glue that held it together, providing unlimited and unconditional love and support to her children and grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them, going to school events, celebrating birthdays, and playing games.She was a wonderful caring beautiful person who enriched so many lives with her presence.
Doris is survived by her sister Odette and husband Barney Nadeau of Fort Kent, ME, and by her children, Michael J and Jeanie (Muise) Gagnon of Nashua, NH, Eileen M. and Joseph Beaulieu of Wells, ME, Donald P Gagnon and partner Liz Vissiliades of Huntington Beach, CA, Marie D Raphael of Newburyport, and her grandchildren Joseph Beaulieu, Stephen Beaulieu, Alicia Beaulieu, Ryan Raphael, Nicole Raphael, and Daniel Raphael, and her great grandchildren Aaron Davis and Brianna Beaulieu.
She was predeceased by her husband Roger A. Gagnon, son Paul M. Gagnon, and granddaughter Randi M Gagnon.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 9:00 AM, to be followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North St on the Salem/Peabody line at 10:00 AM to be followed by her burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
