Charles E. McCann Sr. was born in Queens, N.Y. to Alfred (d) and Winifred McCann (d) on February 18, 1928. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph and sister Bernadette. He served in the Navy during World War II and met his wife Theresa McFeeley (d) of Medford, Ma. through a buddy and married in 1948. He was called back for the Korean War and served.
Charles was father to Charles Jr. (Kathleen McCullough), Kathleen McCann Cooke, Lorraine, Paul (Susan Grubel (d), and Barbara. He was Grandfather to Christopher (Tiffany), Meagan (Michael), Matthew (Celine), Michael (Cristy), Allyson (Mark), Daniel (Katia), Paul Jr. (Tabitha), Kerry, and Kaitlyn. He was Great Grandfather to Addison, Sam, Leonardo, Rafael, William, Olivia, Michelangelo, Aiden, Finley, Donatello, Gabriele and Lliana.
Charles worked at the Daily News for many years and had a career at The New York Telephone Company. He was a 50 year member of the Mohegan Volunteer Fire Department and rose to the rank of Chief then Deputy chief. He was also a member of the Nights of Columbus and The Elks. He was a member of the Marine Corp League of Flagler Beach Fl.
Charles was a busy man always on the go. He enjoyed golf and fiddling around in his garage which was his sanctuary. He worked many jobs to support his family and as it got larger he learned all the skills needed to expand his home. He was a jack of all trades.
He passed peacefully on May 5, 2025. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass, celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford on Thursday May 15th at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours have been omitted. A luncheon will be held following the burial.
