Obituary


James L. Lynch of Lake Como Florida died on Sunday August 13 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring Hospice in Jacksonville. He was 87 years old. Born in Toronto, Canada, Mr. Lynch grew up in Dorchester. In 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He reenlisted in 1949 and proudly served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired in 1964 as a Master Sergeant. After the Army, Mr. Lynch worked in the engineering department at the former Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, now the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was an active member of the Port Norfolk Yacht Club in Dorchester and enjoyed many happy hours on his boat “The Irish Rover.” The beloved husband for 52 years of the late Margaret E. (Cole), he was the devoted father of Maryann Vazza and her husband Francis of Needham and the late James L. Lynch Jr. Father in law of Judith Poskus of Middleboro. Brother of the late Agnes McCartan, Mary Cignarella, Louise Lords, Francis Lynch and Winifred Connors. Cherished grandfather of Michael Vazza of North Andover, James Vazza of Holliston, Annmarie Svingen of Needham, Thomas Vazza of Needham, James Lynch III of Middleboro, Kelly Lynch of Brighton and Kimberly Morton of Texas. Also survived by 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Monday August 21 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 4-8 PM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in James’ name may be made to the Charles River ARC, 59 East Militia Heights Road, Needham MA 02492.
